Das System - Alles verstehen heißt alles verzeihen

Mike Hiller (Jacob Matschenz) has just turned twenty and lives in the day. Between the old prefab buildings of Rostock, where he lives in a shared flat with his best buddy Dustin (Florian Renner), he kills time as a petty criminal, does business, smokes joints and dreams of better times with Dustin. Then Böhm (Bernhard Schütz), an old friend of his late father, approaches him. He provokes him and seduces him into working with him. Böhm is a lobbyist, turning the big wheel. A natural gas pipeline is to be built from east to west, right through the middle of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Böhm opens the door to a new world for Mike, one in which power and money rule. Suddenly Mike is wearing a suit and tie, learning how to drive a hard bargain, make the right friends, and discovering what it's really like in the world of managers. He learns how to use a gun and gradually realizes that the old networks of the pre-1989 era are still active in secret. More and more he falls under the spell of the charismatic Böhm, who increasingly becomes a kind of surrogate father for him and manipulates him with pretended affection. Nevertheless, many unanswered questions and secrets remain. What was Böhm's real relationship to Mike's father before he died? And what was his relationship to Mike's mother Elke (Jenny Schily)? Mike senses that there are more answers and begins to investigate on his own. But Böhm and his friends from the past don't like that at all. The old rope teams are still tightly knit. The system doesn't let go of anyone - and everything has its price. Mike has to make a decision. He wants to understand everything. But can he also forgive everything?
