From a valley in the Pyrenees, country doctor Marianne is called to a remote mountain farm to examine the farmer's wife. She immediately takes a liking to Thomas, the sick woman's adopted son: a handsome fellow with half-African roots whose quiet, masculine drive impresses her. When the boy's mother has to go to the hospital, Marianne invites Thomas to stay with her and her ambitious son Damien in town to be close to his mother.
